What are the entry requirements for Covid?

Italy joins the still relatively closed club of destinations where no health formalities are required. On Monday, May 30, the country’s authorities announced that as of Wednesday, June 1, 2022, they will remove the requirement to show proof of Covid-19 vaccination, recent recovery or a negative test to enter the country.

Until then, travelers over the age of 6 had to present a valid health pass with one of these three proofs.

As of May 1, the Passenger Locator Form is no longer required for travel to Italy. This document, which no longer needs to be filled out, had been introduced for the summer of 2021 in order to locate the traveler in case of Covid infection during the trip.

Passport or identity card?

For a stay of up to three months, French nationals must have a valid identity document: national identity card or passport.

For the record, French national identity cards (CNI) issued to adults between January 1, 2004 and December 31, 2013 remain valid for 5 years after the expiry date indicated on the back. And “the Italian authorities have officially accepted this extension,” says the Quai d’Orsay.

“However, in order to avoid any inconvenience during your trip, you are strongly recommended to prefer the use of a valid passport to that of a CNI bearing an expired date, even if it is considered by the French authorities to be still valid,” the ministry adds.

Mask required in transport, except on planes

Italy is moving towards a gradual return to normality in the fight against Covid.

Since March 11, the discotheques have reopened. And above all, everywhere on the national territory, the mask is no longer essential in the open air.

In addition, since June 16, 2022, it is possible to enter cinemas, theaters and sports halls with “uncovered face”.

On the other hand, the wearing of a FFP2 mask remains mandatory in public transport (trains, boats, ferries, coaches, subways…), except in planes. Children under the age of six are exempt.
