Sheryl Sandberg announced this Wednesday that will no longer be the director of operations of Meta. The Spaniard Javier Oliván, who serves as the company’s director of growth, will take office this fall and will become the new number two of the Facebook parent company.
Through a long message On his resignation, Sandberg says that when he joined the company in 2008, he expected to remain in his position for five years. However, 14 years have passed, so he believes it is time to write a new chapter in his life.
“I’m not entirely sure what the future will bring; I’ve learned that no one ever is. But I know it will include focusing more on my foundation and philanthropic work, which is more important to me than ever given how critical this time is for women”. A Spaniard will be the new number two of Meta
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg he was grateful to Sandberg and said that has no intention of replacing itin the sense that they will no longer have separate product divisions and sales teams at the organization level.
In this sense, Oliván will become the next director of operations of Meta, a position in which he will be in charge of the advertising market and products for companies, and will keep their responsibilities as chief growth officer.
“This role will be different from what Sheryl has done. It will be an more traditional COO which Javi will focus on internally and operationally, building on his strong track record of making our execution more efficient and rigorous,” Zuckerberg said.
Javier Oliván has a degree in Electrical and Industrial Engineering from the University of Navarra and an MBA from Stanford University. He was born in Sabiñánigo (Huesca), but currently resides with his family in Palo Alto (California).
