The Placentia World Cup Indoor Soccer League play during the past few weeks was timely and fun for all involved.

Gord Pike, Bill Greene, Sheldon Slaney and Dene MacDonald got the league up and running this year for students in St. Edward's, St. Anne's and Laval in an effort to help transition the students who will be going through a reorganization as the new Laval school opens and St. Edward's closes its doors.

"We thought it would be a nice transition project to bring all the students together so that they could really get to know one another in an atmosphere of fun, fitness and fair play," said Greene. "We are grateful to the Placentia Town Council and the Recreation Commission for allowing us the use of Unity PARC, our arena. Their cooperation and support has been second to none and the arena's floor surface has been perfect."

Because of a wet, cold spring, grass has not grown well on the Dunville soccer field so the alternate location had to be utilized.

The league included all interested students in the three schools. In the end, over 160 students from Grade 4-Level III were regular participants. Four teams made up the Grade 4-6 league that played each Monday after school. Four teams also made up the Grade 7-9 league that played every Tuesday from 3-5:15 p.m. and four teams made up the Level I-III league that played on Wednesdays, but included several adults with valued association with the schools including police officers, teachers and others.
