Olympic Fever hit the Cape Shore on Friday, Feb. 26 as students at Fatima Academy participated in the Fatima Olympic Games throughout the afternoon session.
The events challenging the students included popular Olympic sports such as curling, skiing, and the skeleton. In true Fatima style, each event included a peculiar twist requiring both ingenuity and adaptability. Curling involved throwing "scooter" rocks while skiing and the skeleton integrated teamwork as well as communication. Suspense hung in the air the entire afternoon as rival teams vied for the coveted chocolate gold medals. Students animatedly shouted words of encouragement and teachers vivaciously chanted team slogans as emcees colourfully commentated over the roar of the crowd.
The day's closing ceremonies truly reflected the spirit of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games. While students congratulated their teammates as well as their opponents, teachers burst with pride as they witnessed this first-class example of camaraderie and moral fiber. The students undoubtedly embodied the Olympic Spirit during the 2010 Fatima Olympic Games.
