Celebration rings in the Winter Solstice

St. Luke’s Church in Placentia filled for evening event on Winter Solstice, Dec. 22.

Michael Collins was kind enough to host the Winter Solstice celebration held at St. Luke’s Anglican Church in Placentia Dec. 22. He also played a couple of Christmas carols on the pump organ, and encouraged everyone to join in. 1 width:500px;height:333px Dr. Jim Wyse was on hand during the evening to present a humorous poem called “The Christmas Turr,” or Black Guillemot, written by Dave Paddon. 2 height:500px;width:333px Paula Milley, Allison Kelly, Cassandra Cheeseman, Shauna Griffiths and Heather Pike (in no particular order), lead by teacher Yvonne Milley, performed a number of songs together with guitars and vocals. 3 width:500px;height:333px Just before a short intermission for tea and snacks, Sarah Power delighted the audience with a rendition of “Oh Holy Night.” 4 height:500px;width:385px Storyteller Alice Lannon delighted the audience with tales from Christmases past. 5 height:500px;width:333px
Nelson Pittman reads “Poor Needy,” a prayer handed to him by Freeman Upshall, written approximately 160 years ago by Freeman’s father, John Upshall, originally from Kingwell, Placentia Bay. 6 height:500px;width:482px
