Former community celebrated

A group of former Argentia residents, descendants and friends visited the site of the community during Argentia Community Days, celebrated Nov. 25-27, marking the 70th anniversary since people were moved from the area to make way for the U.S. Military Base that eventually set up in the location. Visitors included Bride Smith, Tom Smith, Gerard Smith, Elaine Smith, Anne Smith, Helen Griffin, Patricia Power, Bud Smith, Ed Smith, Clem O’Keefe, Kathleen O’Reilly, Maureen O’Reilly, Gerald O’Reilly, Gerard Power, Elaine Murray, Frank Maher and Jack Maher. 1 height:315px;width:422px Peter Lynch and Anne Marie Lynch-Coffey, a father and daughter originally from Argentia, cut the cake during Argentia Community Days, part of which was celebrated at the Freshwater Community Centre. 2 height:500px;width:374px Darrell Duke and Pete Barron make music for people celebrating the former community of Argentia.
