Last week’s editorial was all about the crankiness of people during the holidays, especially in shopping malls, parking lots and various places that during this time of year are filled to overflowing with people trying to rush to fill those stockings, and find the perfect gifts.
Let us leave that behind for now, and focus on the more positive aspects of this holiday time.
As Christmas Day draws ever closer, and we get the holiday bustling out of the way, it is time for us to slow down a little bit and enjoy the time we get to spend with friends and family.
In our province we are notoriously famous for having a good time. We enjoy the trappings of the season - the food, the fun, the presents, caring for one another, seeing people we haven’t got to spend much time with over the year because our lives are just too busy, the simple slowing down of our lives for just a few days.
Here in this province we have a lot to be grateful for, even as we complain about the petty annoyances we all encounter throughout our daily lives.
This is a good time of year to acknowledge our great fortune in being able to live in the amazingly beautiful province, where we are (hopefully) surrounded by people who love us.
But let us not forget those who may be alone this year. Christmas season can be a difficult time for people who are without family, or people who perhaps just moved here and don’t know many others. Perhaps, as a symptom of the season, many of us will open our homes to those who may need a little extra boost of friendship and caring this season.
However you spend the holiday, if you are lucky enough to have one, let us hope it is a safe and happy one, one that will leave you and yours with plenty of happy memories to get you through the year.
Merry Christmas to all, from Elizabeth and Brenda at The Charter!
