The Canadian Coast Guard, the Canadian Forces and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police teamed up for the first of a three-day emergency response demonstration Monday, Sept. 24, 2012 in Argentia. The demonstration, dubbed Operation Marquise, showcased interdepartmental co-operation in emergency situations. The demonstrations were to take place in the air, on land and on sea from Sept. 24 to Sept. 26. In one of Monday’s scenarios, an emergency response team from the RCMP’s B division was called to do a marine intervention on the Canadian Coast Guard Ship Sir Wilfred Grenfell. The team boarded the vessel and and forcefully seized a suspicious person who refused to co-operate. In another scenario, coast guard rescue specialists boarded the ship to assess, treat and transport an individual who sustained head and spinal injuries after falling from a crate.
