Students’ hard work offers results

Students at Laval were presented academic honours at the end of the school year in late June. Here is a comprehensive list of the presentations made at the end of year ceremony.

The Grade 7 Honour Roll included: Honours students Abigail Brown, Amber Culleton, Amber Lynn Ennis, Ryan Hickey, Nathan Hynes, Michael Leonard-Power, Arianne Maltais, Brooklyn McCarthy, Anna Meade, Laura Milley, Joel Nash, William Neville, James Newhook, Brianna Pittman, Jordan Pomeroy, T.J. Pomroy, Cody Power, Sarah Power, Sarah Whittaker, and Kaitlyn Winsor. Grade 7 Students of Distinction included: Jamie Lynn Conway, Chris daSilva, Sarah Kerrivan, Kelsey Mulrooney, Kyle Tobin, and Cody Traverse.

The Grade 8 Honour Roll included: Honours students Cassidy Barry, Paul Bavis, Maggie Follett, Kirkland Foote, Hailey Fudge, Kolton Green, Lindsay Greene, Shania Griffiths, Shilah Griffiths, Brendan Haley, Brent Hatfield, Emilee Hickey, Andrew Kelly, Bailey Lannon, Alexandra McGrath, Michael Nash, Maggie O’Reilly, Patrick Pearson, Isaac Richards, Jordan Roache, Mikayla Vanderkamer, Heidi Walsh, Kristen Walsh, Gillian White, and Zachary Young. Students of Distinction in Grade 8 included: Emily Barnett, Lawrence Brewer, James Culleton, Justin Edison, Michael Hickey, Ashlyn Linehan, Paige Palfrey, and Matthew Power.

Students of Distinction in Grade 9 included: Austin Brown, Rebecca Browne, Michaela Coombs, Colin Edison, Mackenzie Gambin, Brady Griffin, Peter Kerrivan, Devon Murphy, Francis Pittman, and Tyler Whittle.

Level I Students of Distinction include: Jennifer Budden, Alicia Culleton, Candace Ennis, Kiana Flynn, Timothy Gravett, Bradley Greene, Marcus Hickey, Mason Hickey, Lisa Kaczmarczyk, Jeremy Meade, Katie Morgan, Jay Pitcher, Nicholas Pittman, Kristen Regular, Jeannie Smith, Julia Sparkes, Sarah Traverse, and Sarah Viscount.

The Level II Honour Roll includes: Honours students Michael Caul, Joshua Fleming, Scott Greene, Olivia Griffiths, Stacey Hancock, Jaclyn Hynes, Devin Leonard, Rachelle Lewis, Alex Martin, Cassandra McGrath, Daniel Murphy, Jason Murphy, Michael Murphy, Marcus O’Reilly, Matthew Power, Jesse Tom, Maggie Ward, and Devon Whelan. Students of Distinction in Level II include: Kaitlyn Brewer, Jade Coffey, Jared Dunphy, Kasha Green, Olivia Hickey, Megan Lynch, Brent McGrath, Ashton Murphy, David Neville, Brittany O’Keefe, Brandon O’Leary, Jordan Temple-Brown, Nicole Viscount, Taylor Wakeham, Kendra Withers, and Keisha Young.

Level III students’ awards will be announced at graduation in December.

Students who scored the highest marks in a course included in Grade 7: Music –  Nathan Hynes and Sarah Power; Art – Kaitlyn Winsor; Religion- Amber Culleton; Health – Jordan Pomeroy; Physical Education – Jordan Pomeroy; French – Sarah Power; English – Amber-Lynn Ennis and Amber Culleton; Science – Amber Culleton and Jordan Pomeroy; Social Studies – Amber Culleton; Math – Nathan Hynes.

Congratulations to James Newhook who entered a video in the 2012 SAFE Work NL contest. James is a provincial winner and was awarded a cash prize of $1000.

In Grade 8, students with the highest marks included: Music – Andrew Kelly, Michael Nash, and Patrick Pearson; Art – Cassidy Barry; Religion- Cassidy Barry, Greene and Michael Nash; Health – Maggie Follett, Bailey Lannon, and Ali McGrath; Physical Education – Justin Edison and Bailey Lannon; French – Lindsay Greene and Patrick Pearson; English – Patrick Pearson; Science – Patrick Pearson; Social Studies – Cassidy Barry, Lindsay Greene, Patrick Pearson, Gillian White; Math – Patrick Pearson.

In Grade 9, students with the highest marks included: Music – Paula Milley and Melanie Sparrow; Art – Paula Milley; Religion- Devon Griffin, Shauna Griffiths, Allison Kelly, and Emily Racine; Health – Paula Milley; Physical Education – Shauna Griffiths and Brittany McCarthy; French – Devon Griffin; English – Emily Racine; Science – Nicholas Leonard-Power; Social Studies – Devon Griffin, Brittany McCarthy, Colin McGrath, Nicholas Leonard-Power; Math – Nicholas Leonard-Power.

In Level I, students reaching the highest marks included: Ensemble Performance 1105 – Michael Murphy; French 1200 – Chantel O’Keefe; Clothing 1101 – Alexandra Hann, Dominique Kelly, Ashley Viscount; Healthy Living 1200 – Chantel O’Keefe; Skilled Trades 1201 – Daniel Foote; Canadian History 1201 – Jenna Haley, Zachary Newhook, Chantel O’Keefe; Canadian Geography 1202 – Cassie Hickey-Power; Science 1206 – Zachary Newhook; English 1202 – Timmy Gravett; English 1201 – Cassie Hickey-Power and Allison Walsh; Math 1202 – Timmy Gravett; Math 1201 – Zachary Newhook and Chantel O’Keefe.

In Level II, students with the highest marks included: Communications Technology 2104 – Devin Browne; Art & Design 2200 – Dominique Kelly and Inni Mangat; Career Development 2201 – Olivia Griffiths; Ensemble Performance 2105 – Scott Greene; English 2202 – Keisha Young; English 2201 – Olivia Griffiths; Biology 2201 – Cassie Hickey-Power; Chemistry 2202 – Devin Whelan; Physics 2204 – Devin Whelan; Math 2206 – Keisha Young; Math 2204 – Michael Caul and Brandon O’Leary; Math 2205 – Olivia Griffiths and Cassie McGrath.

Fine Arts awards were handed out in the areas of visual arts, drama and the musical. Students recognized included: Junior High Most Dedicated Artist – James Newhook; Junior High Most Improved Artist – Kaitlyn Foley; Junior High Artist with Promise – Paula Milley; Senior High Most Dedicated Artist – Olivia Hickey, Christian Kearley, and Maggie Ward; Senior High Most Improved Artist – Grant Payne; Senior High Artist with Promise – Dominique Kelly and Brittany Woodman. The Fine Arts Debut Award went to Sarah Power, Jordan Pomeroy, and Ryan Hickey. In Junior High: Best Supporting Actor – Patrick Pearson; Best Supporting Actress – Gillian White; Best Comedic Performance – Michaela Coombs; Best Actress – Emilee Hickey/Maggie Follett; Junior High Best Actor – Kirkland Foote. In Senior High: Best Supporting Actor – Inni Mangat; Best Supporting Actress – Jeannie Smith; Best Actress – Chantel O’Keefe and Kyla Follett; Best Actor – Zachary Newhook; Best Ensemble Acting – The Spirits of Plaisance.

The Best Vocal Performer Male – Dan Murphy; Best Vocal Performer Female – Megan Foley; Best Ensemble Performance – “Love Shack” with Megan Foley, Jesse Tom, Kasha Green, Devin Whelan, Kristen Walsh, Josh Fleming and Zack Newhook; Most Entertaining Musical Moment – “Beat it!” with Megan Foley, Jeannie Smith, Heather Pike, Devin Whelan, Josh Batten, Josh Fleming, Keith daSilva, Jordan Pomroy, Inni Mangat, Joel Nash, and Michael Leonard Power; Best Duet – Freddie O’Keefe and Jeannie Smith; Most Dedicated Musical Performer Male – Josh Fleming; Most Dedicated Musical Performer Female – Kasha Green; Most Versatile Musician – Jesse Tom; Outstanding Musical Leadership Award – Devin Whelan; and Excellence in Fine Arts - Megan Foley.

Athletic Awards presented included: Cross Country Running, Top Junior Female Runner - Ashley O’Keefe, Top Junior Male Runner - Nicholas Leonard-Power, Top Senior Female Runner - Brittany O’Keefe; in Girls’ Soccer, Most Improved - Emily Nash, Hard Hat Award - Ashley Viscount, MVP - Brittany O’Keefe; in Senior Boys’ Soccer, Sportsmanship Award - Grant Payne, Hard Hat Award - Will Cochrane, MVP - Colby Murphy; in Senior Boys Softball, Top Fielder - Gerard Dray, Most Dedicated Player - Evan Pittman, Top Pitcher - Todd Hatfield-O’Keefe, Most Valuable Player – Colby Murphy; in Girls’ Softball, Most Valuable Player - Brittany McGrath; in Senior Boys Hockey, Top Defenseman - Gerard Dray, Top Forward -Bradley Budden, Most Dedicated - Devin Whelan, MVP - Jordan Dray and Colby Murphy; in Senior Girls’ Volleyball, Most Improved Player - Amber Meade, Leadership Award - Kaitlyn Brewer; in Senior Boys’ Basketball, Most Dedicated - Inni Mangat, Defensive Player - Scott Greene, Most Sportsmanlike Player - Josh Batten, MVP - Nick Pittman; in Senior Girls’ Basketball, Most Improved Player – Brittany O’Keefe, Most Outstanding Player - Hailey Fudge, Game-Changer Award - Sara Lake, Most Dedicated - Olivia Griffiths, Most Valuable Player - Emily Nash; in Junior Girls’ Volleyball, Most Improved Player – Maggie O’Rielly, Most Valuable Player – Mikayla Vanderkamer; in Junior Girls’ Basketball, Top Defensive Player – Heather Pike, Most Improved – Bailey Lannon, MVP – Hailey Fudge; in Junior Boys Basketball, Most Improved Grade 7 – Jordan Pomeroy, Top Defensive Player – Justin Edison, Most Improved Grade 8 – Zachary Young and Jordan Roache, Most Valuable Player – Kolton Green, and the Minor Official of the Year Award - Kasha Green.

Athlete of the Year awards were also presented at the assembly. Results were: Junior Male Athlete of the Year - Nicholas Leonard-Power, Junior Female Athlete of the Year - Hailey Fudge, Senior Male Athlete of the Year - Colby Murphy, and Female Athlete of the Year (Mag Davis Award) - Emily Nash.

Inni Mangat was awarded the Cavalier Award which is an award that is presented to a student who has been extensively involved in a wide array of school activities.

Student of the Year award for 2011-2012 is Alex Hann.
