Cadets hold annual ceremonial review

Busy year for corps

2558 Placentia Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps recently held its 57th Annual Ceremonial Review at St. Anne’s Academy. Staff Sergeant Terry Trainor, District Commander of the Placentia/Whitbourne District of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, served as Reviewing Officer for the event. He was joined in the Reviewing Party by other guests including Mr. David Curtis from the Newfoundland and Labrador Branch of the Army Cadet League of Canada, Captain Roger Motty from the Newfoundland and Labrador Cadet Detachment and representatives of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 33 Placentia and the Cadet Parents Committee.

Following the inspection and march past, the cadets treated the audience of invited guests, parents and friends to an evening of demonstrations including Power of Command, First Aid, Physical Fitness and Marksmanship, each of which displayed skills acquired throughout the year. A number of cadets also presented speeches on their cadet experiences and took part in static displays which showcased training in bushcraft and map and compass.

During the occasion a number of cadets were recognized for their dedication and commitment throughout the year. Award recipients included: Corporal Jamie Conway – Captain William F. Collins Top Green Star Cadet and Best Dressed Cadet on Parade; Master Corporal Ali McGrath – Captain Robert Greene Top Red Star Cadet; Sergeant Nathan Mulrooney – Major Austin W. Collins Top Silver Star Cadet; Warrant Officer Nicole Mulrooney – Captain Charles Lomond Top Gold Star Cadet and Captain Arthur J. O’Keefe Comradeship Award; Warrant Officer Josh Tobin - Royal Canadian Legion Cadet Medal of Excellence and Army Cadet Service Medal; Warrant Officer Lillian Gravett – Army Cadet Service Medal 6 Year Bar, Master Warrant Officer Stephen Budden – Army Cadet Service Medal 5 Year Bar and Chief Warrant Officer Brady McGrath – Lord Strathcona Trust Medal and Army Cadet Service Medal 5 Year Bar.

Seven cadets were acknowledged for maintaining exemplary attendance at mandatory training during the year including Lance Corporal TJ Schumann, Corporal Jamie Lynn Conway, Master Corporals Ali McGrath and David Quilty, Sergeant Nathan Mulrooney, Master Warrant Officer Stephen Budden and Chief Warrant Officer Brady McGrath.

The unit also paid tribute to four cadets who are concluding their cadet adventures. Warrant Officers Dominique Kelly and Lillian Gravett, Master Warrant Officer Stephen Budden and Chief Warrant Officer Brady McGrath will be departing the cadet movement at the end of the current training year. They were each recognized for their many personal accomplishments and their contribution to the corps and community.

    Hi, could someone call me I'd like to get some info and beable to discusse an Issue with someone that has been in the cadets I have a 14 yr old and in Despret Need. Please help Nicole
