This past month is the time schools end their classes and make presentations to those students who have excelled in one way or another throughout the year.
At Laval High School awards were presented to students with the highest marks in Grades 9 through to Level II.
In Grade 9, awards for highest marks were as follows: Physical Education, Jason Murphy; Science, Scott Greene; Social Studies, Scott Greene; Religion/Health, Jason Murphy; Math, Josh Fleming; French, Jesse Tom; English, Michael Caul; Fine Arts, Cody Reeder.
In Level I, highest marks went to: Canadian History 1201, Ashley Viscount; Canadian Geography 1202, Bradley Budden and Evan Pittman; English 1200, Brandon Lake; English 1201, Alexandra Hann; English 1202, Brandon Lake; Math 1204, Ashley Viscount; Math 1206, Brandon Lake; Science 1206, Inni Mangat and Gerard Day; Healthy Living 1200, Ashley Viscount.
In Level II, awards for top marks went to: Art & Design 2200, Samantha Hancock and Robert Moore; Career Development 2201, Kathryn Viscount, Dominique Viscount, Samantha Hancock, Shane Regular and Paul Hickey; English 2201, Dominique Viscount; English 2202, Megan O'Leary; Writing 2203, Alyssa Buckmaster; Experiencing Music 2200, Brittany Greene; Math 2204, Jordan Meade; Math 2205, Shane Regular; Math 2206, Megan O'Leary; Science 2200, Brandon Lake; Biology 2201, Ashley Viscount; Chemistry 2202, Paul Hickey; Physics 2204, Inni Mangat and Victoria Hynes; French 2200, Ashley Viscount; Communications Technology 2104, Jonathan Sparrow; Human Dynamics 2201, Jenna Murphy.
Level III awards will be presented at the graduation ceremony held in December.
Students named to the Honour Roll in Grade 9A include Michael Caul, Jade Coffey, Josh Fleming, Scott Greene, Olivia Hickey, Rachelle Lewis, Jason Murphy and Jesse Tom. Students with Distinction include Kaitlyn Brewer, Jared Dunphy, Kyle Foley, Megan Lynch, Cody Reeder, Taylor Wakeham and Maggie Ward.
Students named to the Honour Roll in Grade 10A include Devin Browne, Bradley Budden, Gerard Dray, and Dominique Kelly and with Distinciton, William Cochrane, Jenina King and Brandon Lake.
In Grade 10B, Honour's students include Alyssa Buckmasterm Jordan Dray, Daniel Foote, Emily Nash, Kendra Perham and Evan Pittman, and students with Distinction include Megan Foley and Grant Payne.
In Grade 10C, Honour Roll students include Danika Brennan, Heather Collins-Brewer, Alexandra Hann, Inni Mangat, Ashley Viscount and Brittany Woodman, and with Distinction, Caity Griffin, Brady McGrath and Meghan Taylor.
In Grade 11A, Honours students include Heather Barry, Samantha Hancock, Paul Hickey, Dominique Viscount and Kathryn Viscount and with Distinction, Brandon Bartlett, Terri Lynn Walsh and Rebecca Walsh.
In Grade 11B, Honours students were Jordan Meade, Brenda Mulrooney, Sonia Murphy and Shane Regular and with Distinction, Megan O'Leary, Rebecca O'Reilly, Kayla Pearson, Nathan Pike, Austin Pittman and Marquetta Power.
In Grade 11C, Honours students include Amanda Heal, Justin King, Jenna Mandville and Robert Moore while students with Distinction include Paul Baker, Courtney Fudge, Kayla Hickey, Brady Kelly, Chelsea O'Keefe, April O'Leary and Justin Smith.
Students presented with Outstanding Volunteer Awards for working 100 volunteer hours or more at school or in the community were Shane Regular, Samantha Hancock, Dominique Viscount and Kathryn Viscount.
Under the Fine Arts Awards heading, Ocean Whiffen and Samantha Hancock were presented a Most Dedicated to Visual Arts awards, while Brandon Payne received the Most Improved Artist award and Jennifer Duke walked away with the Arts with Promise award.
Drama awards were presented to Heather Barry for Outstanding Supporting Performance (female), Shane Regular for Outstanding Supporting Performance (male), Emily Leonard for Outstanding Acting Performance (female) and Chris Griffiths for Outstanding Acting Performance (male).
Musical awards presented included those which went to Cutis Buckmaster for Breakout Performance (vocal), Jonathan Sparrow for Breakout Performance (acting), Jesse Tom, Outstanding Vocal performance (male), Megan Foley, Outstanding Vocal Performance (female), Jesse Tom and Rebecca Walsh, Best Performance by a Duet, Brenda Mulrooney for Dedicated Musical Performer, Lucas Morrissey for Technicians Award, Brady Kelly ad Ron King, Musical Leadership Award, Jonathan Sparrow, Best Impromptu Vocal Performance "It's My Life", Best Group Performance "Pants on the Ground" went to Inni Mangat, Sonia Murphy, Samantha Hancock, Emily Leonard and Chris Griffiths and Outstanding All-round Performance went to Chris Griffiths.
The Overall Award in Fine Arts, presented to a student for their commitment and dedication to Laval's Fine Arts over a period of years went to Emily Leonard.
Athletic Awards presented includes the Jim Nolan Award for Boys Softball Most Valuable Player, donated by the Freshwater Community Centre (worth $100) went to Jeremy O'Reilly.
In Senior Girls Softball, the Most Sportsmanlike Player went to Kayla Hickey. Top Batter was Courtney Fudge and Most Valuable Player went to Rachelle Lewis.
Cross Country Running's Top Female Runner was Brittany O'Keefe (winner of the Harvest Run) and the Top Male Runner was Eddie Hefferan, who placed fifth in the Senior Boys Provincials.
In Senior Boys Soccer, Eddie Hefferan was the Top Defender and Most Dedicated was Grant Payne while the Most Valuable Player award went to Gerard Dray.
In Senior Girls Soccer, Most Dedicated went to Emily Leonard, the Sportsmanship Award went to Dominique Viscount and Most Improved went to Katherine Viscount.
In Senior Boys Hockey, Eddie Hefferan was the Top Defenceman, Jeremy O'Reilly was the Top Forward and Devan McGrath was named Most Dedicated.
In Senior Boys Basketball, Nathan Pike was named Most Dedicated while the Sportsmanship Award went to Mark Healey.
In Senior Girls Basketball, Most Dedicated was Emily Nash, Most Improved was Megan Foley, the Team Player Award went to Victoria Hynes and Most Valuable Player went to Jenna Mandville.
In Under 16-17 Girls Basketball, Most Consistent Player was Jenna Mandville, Best Defensive Player was Alyshia Mulrooney, Most Improved Players were Candace Ennis and Heather Pike, Most Dedicated were Megan Foley and Sara Lake and Most Valuable Player was Emily Nash.
In Under 15 Girls Basketball, the Most Valuable Player was Brittany O'Keefe.
In Track and Field, Most Valuable Player was Emily Leonard and the Sportsmanship Award went to Samantha Hancock.
Student Athlete of the Year awards were presented to Jeremy O'Reilly (male) and Sonia Murphy (female), also known as the Mag Davis Award.
Winners of the Student of the Year Award were Jenna Murphy and Victoria Hynes.
