The Placentia/Whitbourne District of the RCMP was busy during the weekend of June 12-13 as they responded to a total of 28 calls for service.
Early in the morning on June 13, Whitbourne police were investigating two back-to-back cases of impaired driving. In one, a 48-year old man from Blaketown was arrested after he failed the breathalyzer after driving an ATV. In the other case, Whitbourne RCMP were called to the Trans Canada Highway after receiving a report of an impaired driver. The vehicle was stopped and the driver, a 20-year old from St. Bride's, was charged with failing the breathalyzer and impaired driving.
Both men are scheduled to appear in St. John's Provincial Court.
On June 13, Whitbourne RCMP were called to the Department of Works, Services and Transportation Depot in Bellevue. A full size half tonne truck was reported to have been stolen along with a number of other items from the depot. The truck was later recovered on the Trans Canada Highway near Bellevue and has been secured, along with its contents so police can continue the investigation.
Police ask if anyone has information on this or any other crimes to call the Whitbourne detachment at 759-2600 or call Crime Stoppers.
