Over $43,500 in federal money will assist the Isthmus Area Development Association in upgrades to the Long Cove marina.
The funding was announced Nov. 5 and is provided through the Community Adjustment Fund (CAF).
The money will help build floating docks and cribbing to the marina, enhance the entrance to the harbour to provide access needed for more berth space, which will enable the Isthmus Area Development Association, along with the Long Cove Harbour Authority to accommodate the growing demand for marina services and, it is hoped, will attract more recreational boaters to the area.
The funding will also assist in constructing a walking trail from the eastern side of the marina to connect with Seaview Trail.
"The government of Canada recognizes the importance of maintaining community infrastructure, which in turn supports tourism growth and assists with economic development," said Minister Responsible for Newfoundland and Labrador and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway, Peter MacKay. "Projects like the further development of the Long Cove marina show clearly how funding from our Economic Action Plan is building stronger communities across Canada."
