The 2558 Placentia Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps exceeded expectations when it came to collecting money for selling poppies. This year a total of $2,127.69 was raised by the corps, up from last year. The money raised goes toward veterans groups.
A number of cadets were given special recognition for their efforts in selling poppies this year.
Cadets Heather Pike, Megan Taylor and Elizabeth Dollmont together raised the most money this year with a final tally of $306.97. The cadets who raised the second highest amount were MCpl Brittany McGrath and cadet Brittany McCarthy, who together raised $206.03 in Poppy Day sales. They all were presented with a token of appreciation from Poppy Chair Val Careen.
In appreciation, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 33 in Placentia made a contribution to the 2558 Placentia Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps, presented by Poppy Chair Val Careen, which was accepted by Chief Warrant Officer Brandon Payne, RSM.
