On September 22, Festival of the Sea launched a School Twinning initiative between three schools in Newfoundland and Labrador and three schools in Ireland.

During the launch a poster contest was announced for St. Catherine's Academy, Fatima Academy and Baltimore Academy.

Festival of the Sea Coordinator Sherry Gambin Walsh presented an 8 GB I-Pod to Daniel Hickey, first place winner, and a $50 Toys R Us gift certificate each to second place winner Jordan Reardon and third place winner Fatima Academy student Justin McGrath.

The judging was done with the assistance of artist Margaret Best from the Southern Shore. The theme was Two Islands Two Centuries One People and the winners depicted this theme the best visually.

The two honorable mentions are also from Fatima. They are Johnny Careen and Alexandria Coffey.

Festival of the Sea plans to showcase the winners on their website and may use the art in future promotions.

Visit www.festivalofthesea.ca for more details and to see the winning artwork.
