Nominations are open for the Newfoundland and Labrador Environmental Awards, aimed at recognizing environmental conservation and enhancement efforts across the province, according to a news release.
The awards, now in their 23rd year, are offered by the provincial Department of Environment and Conservation.
Terry French, minister of environment and conservation, said the awards are a way to recognize people who take an active role in protecting and enhancing the environment.
“It is important that we celebrate and acknowledge these environmental contributions,” he was quoted. “We encourage residents of Newfoundland and Labrador to nominate an individual or group who they believe has made a difference and demonstrated environmental stewardship in our province.”
Award categories include individual, community group, youth or school, municipality or regional waste management committee, business leader, and lifetime achievement.
Applications and award guidelines are available on the Department of Environment and Conservation website here (http://www.env.gov.nl.ca/env/env_edu/awards.html#1)
Nominations for the awards close May 1.
