RCMP in Placentia charged a man with impaired driving just one day after he’d been charged with the same offence in St. John’s.
Placentia-Whitbourne RCMP stopped the 44-year old Corner Brook male at 9:45 p.m. Sunday, April 2 in Placentia while investigating an assault, but quickly came to the belief the man was intoxicated.
The RCMP officers asked for a breath sample but the man refused. While checking the man’s background, police discovered the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary had charged the man with impaired driving the night before in St. John’s, and suspended the man’s license. He also owed over $5,000 in fines and was on probation.
Police officers informed the man he was being charged with impaired operation, refusal, breach of probation and two counts of driving while suspended, which led to the man becoming upset and kicking out the window of the police car, leading to another charge, this time, mischief.
The man was held overnight and appeared in Harbour Grace Provincial court on April 3.
