Placentia seeks Town Crier

Have you got a voice that can be heard over the crowds? Are you community minded and enjoy attending events around Placentia? Do you like to dress in period costume?

If you answered any of these questions with a ‘yes’ then the Town of Placentia has a job just for you.

Councillor Wayne Power Jr. chair of the Tourism and Heritage Committee said the Town of Placentia is currently seeking a special person for the volunteer position of town crier.

“Gerry Griffiths was the first official town crier when he started in that position in, I believe it was, 1994,” said Councillor Power. “As he recently retired, we are now looking for someone else to take over that position.”

The town crier attends community events throughout the year in period costume and reads aloud declarations for the town.

“What we really need is someone with the right type of personality,” explained the town councillor. “Age is irrelevant but we would like to have someone who is not shy, someone who can easily chat to people and is not afraid to have all eyes on them. Cheerfulness and friendliness are important attributes for this position.”

Councillor Power suggested anyone interested in the position to contact the Heritage and Tourism Committee for the Town of Placentia or drop by the town office to discuss the position.
