With school vacation just around the corner the Placentia recreation department is busy planning their Summer Programs.
“Watch for a fun-filled summer children’s program with a variety of recreational sports cooperative games, nature activities, arts and crafts, offsite trips and some interesting visitors,” said Scott Batten, recreation director for the Town of Placentia.
The eight-week summer program will begin on Tuesday, July 3, with activities being offered at the playground/softball diamonds in Placentia and Dunville. Leaders will offer supervised activities during the morning from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1-3:30 p.m. in the afternoon session.
“Our enthusiastic program leaders are planning a wide variety of activities for participants. Especially exciting will be several Wacky Wednesday’s,” Batten said.
The recreation department is also encouraging all area residents to get involved in The More The Merrier Group Challenge. This Recreation NL program is geared towards communities to take the initiative and get as many of their citizens involved in a physical activity challenge to celebrate June as Recreation Month! To participate simply sign up at the Small Steps...Big Results Physical Activity website at www.smallstepsbigresults.net and then join Placentia’s team the Easy Striders. Groups who have 50 or more members participating will get the chance to win a community prize valued at approximately $1,000 to help support activity in their community. There will also be additional prizes to those groups who are actively participating in this challenge.
Additional summer program details and registration information will be distributed in a newsletter through the local schools or residents can contact the recreation department at 227-3996.
